Empowering girls to choose
Empowering girls to choose. This Sunday, October 11, is the International Day of the Girl, established by the UN in 2012 thanks to the initiative of Plan International France. A particularly important date as it highlights the discrimination and violence that still affect millions of girls worldwide: school dropout, female genital mutilation, forced marriages, early pregnancies, and abuse.

This year’s message is simple and essential: enabling girls to choose their future. A choice still too often out of reach.
Every year, 12 million girls under the age of 18 are forced into marriage worldwide, resulting in the end of their education, increased health risks, and a loss of control over their life path.
Helping them decide their own path, giving them the means to act, and ensuring they are heard are the principles guiding the commitment of Plan International France—an NGO dedicated to children’s rights since 1937, of which our founder, Astrid Boutaud, is a board member.
Listening to girls, believing in them, and giving them the means to decide is a commitment we are proud to support and one that resonates with what we believe at Les Pointures: positive changes are born and become lasting when the means to choose and act are shared.
